Reims,
France Monday,
July 23, 2001 Champagne Day! After a small coffee, bread, butter and jam,
we spend the morning and early afternoon walking around Reims and working on the
Web site. At 3:15 p.m. we get a guided tour of the Pommery Champagne House - a
factory of a world-famous champagne company where they prepare millions of bottles
of champagne from the region. It's raining hard but we decide to run through the
showers trying to find the vineyards. We give up after we are almost soaking wet
and catch a bus back to the Internet café where the proprietor was kindly watching
our luggage and stop at the grocery store along the way. We share bread, cheese
and Jenni's newfound
flame: walnut butter (which WE THOUGHT was peanut butter but tastes a lot like
chocolate.) We open our bottle of champagne, which pops violently and sprays half
the stuff out before we can get a handle on it. Joe is now fully drenched, but
having fun! Tonight at 8:15 we catch the overnight train to Fussen, Germany in
Southern Bavaria by way of Paris and Munich.
